Dolwen Field Recreation For All
Dolwen Field is owned by Llanwrtyd Wells Council and is managed by the Dolwen Field Committee, which reports to the council monthly. The Dolwen Field was bequeathed to the Community of Llanwrtyd Wells by Bevington Rhys Gibbins on the 16th of March 1948 solely for the “recreation and relaxation for the inhabitants of and the visitors to Llanwrtyd Wells”. In September 1983, Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council duly purchased the Field and maintained the original stipulation that the field should be used for recreation and relaxation. Over the years, the field has been used for many sports and community activities, but its use had become limited in recent years. An existing pavilion was renovated in 2013, and to make the building more accessible, the Dolwen Committee applied for a grant from the lottery and secured the funds to build a roadway and a pedestrian walkway that goes around the perimeter of the field. In addition a sensory garden has been built, trees and meadow planted, seats installed around the park and table tennis and boules court created. The latest development is a grow-and-share area with a polytunnel.
The field is a place for relaxation and recreation and is accessible to all ages and abilities; the restoration will preserve the site’s heritage for future generations.
